CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Grace Riermann and
Maggie Riermann became three-time All-Americans in doubles competition Friday afternoon winning the opening round of the NCAA Championships. Grace also earned All-American honors in singles play winning a pair of matches this morning putting her in the quarterfinals.
The day started bright and early for Grace in singles play upending seventh-seeded Lindy Cornwall of Carnegie Mellon University 6-4, 6-1. Riermann gained break point early in set one. Cornwall earned break point making it 5-4 before Grace rattled off four straight points taking the opener. Grace took care of set two in an easy 44 minutes with three break points.
In her second match of the day, Rierman went up 3-1 in the opening set with a pair of break points against Carly Levitz from Colby. The two went back and forth before Grace captured break point taking the opening set 6-4. She took set two in just over an hour 6-2 advancing to the quarterfinals.
After being on the court for four hours, Grace teamed up with sister Maggie winning the opening battling out a 7-5, 6-4 victory sending them into the quarterfinals.
Singles play begins Saturday morning at 8 a.m. where Grace will take on seconded seeded Christina Watson of Emory. Winner of the matches moves to the semifinals later in the day. In doubles play the duo will not play prior to 3 p.m. on Saturday. A win puts them in the semifinals set for Sunday. Matches can be watched live at
