ST. PAUL, Minn. – Freshman
Josiah Colman scored the Royals lone goal in their season opening 2-1 loss to Concordia Thursday evening at the University of Northwestern.
Concordia scored nine minutes into the contest before Colman tapped in the equalizer in the 15th minute. A shot from
Mu Ku Shi was deflected to Colman who tapped it in from about 10 yards out on the left side.
In a fairly even first half where the shots were 8-6 in Bethel's advantage, the MIAC foes went into the break evened up at one a piece.
Concordia controlled the second half where things got chippy midway through. What was intended to just be a clearance up field for Concordia drew Bethel goalie Juan Valdivia Cortes out from the goalie box. A Cobbers forward was able to track it down first and get just enough of a touch on it sending it over Valdivia and into the back of the net in the 64th minute.
The Royals are back on the pitch Sunday at Saint John's starting at 11 a.m.
