Another busy day of Bethel athletics is in the books! Seven teams saw action today highlighted by men's golf winning the Bethel Preview, their best finish since winning the Augsburg Invite in 2015. Along the way softball came away with a sweep of Carleton and women's tennis shutout Hamline 9-0.

Men's Golf Wins First Tournament since 2015 [Results]
It's been a long time coming, but the men's golf team earned every bit of its first-place finish at the Bethel Preview which featured four other MIAC opponents. The Royals carded a 300 in the second round for a total 611 in the 36-hole event.
Michael Piehler carded a 71 for the second day in a row leading him to a career-best 142 and his first-ever first-place individual finish.
Noah Frobom finished in fourth shooting a 150 for the weekend while Jake Roane and
Zach Owen finished in a tie for eight with 157s.
Softball Wins Fourth Straight, Sweeps Carleton [Game 1 Box Score, Game 2 Box Score]
Just another day at the office for BU who swept Carleton by scores of 10-4 and 8-0. Over the weekend the Royals outscored their opponents 35-4 including a pair of shutouts.
Jamie Axelberg and
Calli Maki each homered in game one while Maki pitched a complete game effort in the circle.
Game two was a quick one hour and nine minutes thanks to
Kayla Simacek who struck out 10 of the 16 batters she faced. Simacek improved to 7-2 by throwing a near perfect game where her only mistake was a hit-by-pitch.
Maki completed the combined cycle in game two with her RBI triple in the first inning.
Women's Tennis Wipes Out Hamline [Box Score]
The Royals snapped a two-match losing skid with a 9-0 win over Hamline. Bethel did not drop a single set in the match.
Grace Riermann and
Rylee Schurman highlighted singles play winning by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Women's Golf Finishes Third in Competitive Spring Preview [Results (PDF)]
Bethel finished third among seven other MIAC teams at the Spring Preview this weekend at Emerald Greens Golf Course. The Royals carded a 648 (321-327) in the 36-hole event.
Nicole Miller took four strokes off her round one score carding a 74 on day two. Her eight-over 152 placed her in a tie for first with St. Catherine's Jordan Amelon.
Anna Tollefson finished ninth with a 159 (74-85) while
Amy Jacobson rounded out Bethel's top three with a 166 (85-81).
Women's Soccer Falls to Saint Ben's, 3-2 [Box Score]
Trailing 2-0 at the half, the Royals stormed back with goals from
Lauren Davis in the 64rd minute and
Rachel Waterman in the 66th tying it up at 2-2. The scoring fest continued, but unfortunately this time for the foe as CSB put the game winner in the back of the next in the 67th minute.
Men's Soccer Late Comeback Comes up Short [Box Score]
It was scoreless for 76 minutes until the Royals gave up two goals in a span three minutes to the Johnnies. Bethel didn't go down without a fight as
Jacob Redden scored on an assist from
Ben Richburg in the 81st minute. The Royals had two great looks down the stretch but SJU's keep came up with saves on both attempts.
Baseball Splits with Macalester [Game 1 Box Score, Game 2 Box Score]
The Royals moved to 12-6 on the year and 6-2 in the MIAC after splitting with Macalester.
A six-run fifth boosted the Royals to a 7-3 victory in game one that saw
Marcus Krupke through a complete game with sevent strikeouts.
Nick Wibben when 2-for-3 with two RBI while
Luke Carlson was the other Royals with two RBI thanks to a double down the left field line.
A three-run sixth by the Scots spoiled Bethel's 2-1 lead in game two. Carlson stayed strong at the plate where he had two of the Royals four hits.
