ST. PAUL, Minn. – Freshman
Ava Johnston made a quick impact scoring the lone goal in Bethel University's women's soccer 1-0 victory over Concordia Tuesday afternoon.
While Bethel had some opportunities, it hadn't fired a shot on goal in the first 31 minutes. That was until
Lauren Davis dribbled around Concordia defenders firing a shot on net that was saved by the Concordia keeper, but deflected right to
Ava Johnston.
Johnston in the 32nd made it tapped it just inside the post putting Bethel up 1-0. Through the rest of the first half freshman
Izzie Smith was lights out with eight stops, before tallying a total of 15 in her collegiate debut.
The Royals held strong despite four second-half corner kicks from the Cobbers. Inclement weather entered the area forcing just under an hour delay. Resuming the final 31 minutes on wet turf Bethel held CC of the board for the Royals first shutout of the season.
The Royals are back on the pitch Sunday, April 11 traveling to Saint Benedict for a 1 p.m. start.
