STARTING FIVE
1)Â Â Playing its first ranked opponent of the season, the Bethel University men's basketball team travels to No. 5-ranked Saint John's Saturday afternoon. The Royals are looking to keep their winning ways going following a 72-50 win over Concordia Monday at home. Following Saturday, BU has two remaining games on the schedule, as of now, hosting Gustavus on March 1 and traveling to St. Thomas on March 6.
2)Â Â He may be a rookie, but freshman
Joey Kidder looks like a seasoned veteran on the floor where he averages the fourth most minutes in the country at 38.1 per game. Kidder has played in all five games, starting in four, and has made his presence felt on the defensive end averaging a team-leading 6.4 rebounds, seven steals and six blocks.Â
3)Â Â Isaiah Carver-Bagley has shown his senior leadership being the Royals leading scorer at 15.4 points per game. Carver-Bagley has been the Royals leading scorer in four of their five games including a season-high 23 points at Augsburg. From behind the arc, he averages four treys a game ranking second in the MIAC and fourth nationally.Â
4)Â Â The Royals defense has been strong only giving up 61.4 points per game ranking second in the conference and 12th nationally. In three of the five games this season, Bethel has held its opponents to under 60 points. On Monday, BU forced Concordia to shoot 33.9 percent from the field making it the second lowest field goal percentage by an opponent in the last three seasons.
5)Â Â Saturday will be the 93rd meeting in the all-time meeting between Bethel and Saint John's as the Royals look to snap a three-game losing skid to the Johnnies. Bethel's last win against the Johnnies came on Jan. 31, 2019 in the Robertson Center with an 85-81 advantage.
