ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – All nine players that saw action for the Bethel University men's basketball team found the scoring column in a 63-52 victory over Hamline Wednesday evening inside the Robertson Center.
The Royals picked up their first MIAC win of the season, now 1-2 in conference play, behind its leading scorer of
Tommy Jensen with 15 points.
Zach Doely had his third double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebound, six of which came on the offensive end.
Bethel held the advantage on the boards 41-25 while producing 22 points from its bench compared to Hamline's nine.
BU overcame its early offense struggles scoring its first bucket of the game just over five minutes in. The Royals defense halted the Hamline offense for a 4:21 stretch taking back the lead with an 8-0 run capped with a three ball from
Dom Aguilar.
The Royals kept hitting from behind the arc going 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) in the opening 20 minutes. BU held a double-digit lead on three separate occasions taking a 32-21 lead into the break.
Out of the break,
Jaren Tschetter knocked down one of his three treys giving BU its largest lead of the night at 42-46 with 15:29 to go.
The Pipers cut the BU lead to single digits with four minutes left before getting as close as four. The Royals battled scoring the game's final seven points and handing Hamline its largest defict of the year.
Bethel hits the road for a non-conference game Saturday at Wisconsin-Superior. Tipoff is schedule for 3 p.m.
