ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – A young Bethel University men's basketball squad looked anything but unexperienced Saturday evening inside the Robertson Center where they kicked off the
Zach Filzen era with a convincing 79-56 win over Crown.
Â
The Royals were connecting from long distance shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) while working it inside for 34 points inside the paint.
Â
Zach Doley and Jaren Teschetter led all Bethel scorers with 15 points each while
Tommy Jensen added 13. Doley also added a game-high eight boards
Dom Aguilar in his Bethel debut was hot from three-point range where all 12 of his points came from.
Â
The Royals only trailed for the opening 2:09 before getting their legs underneath them. The three ball was going in early and often as
Jake Wald's long-distance shot sparked a 7-0 run through a four-minute span.
Â
Bethel kept hitting while the defense forced the Storm to go ice cold from the field at 22.9 percent in the first 20 minutes.
Â
Expanding on its 32-19 halftime lead, a driving layup from Doley at the 12:42 mark in the second put Bethel's lead into the 20s. A nice drive from
Myles Coleman at the 7:09 mark gave the Royals their largest lead of the night at 62-36.
Â
Bethel continues a three-game homestand to begin the year on Wednesday hosting Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
