NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Behind 10 service aces, the most by the Royals in a three-set match this year, the No. 24th-ranked Bethel University volleyball team ran away with a three-set MIAC victory at Carleton Wednesday evening (25-11, 25-15, 25-13).
Â
Sophomore outside hitter
Danielle Friedges had an even stat line with a match-high nine kills, hitting .533 to go along with five service aces, a block, five kills and accouting for 14.5 of BU's points.
Â
A run of three straight service aces from Friedges gave Bethel (14-4, 3-1 MIAC) the lead in the first 7-4. Nine straight points from Bethel opened the advantage to 12. A little run by Carleton (5-14, 0-5 MIAC) was quickly squashed by a kill from
Kirstin Cotter at 20-9.
Rylee Forshee finished it off with one of Bethel's six aces in the set.
Â
Following a pair of early ties in the second, a Knights attacking error handed Bethel the lead for good. Carleton got as close as five points, but BU shut the door with five straight points capped off by a Friedges kill.
Â
Hitting .367 for the set, BU dominated the third forcing Carleton into six attacking errors. Two more service aces by Friedges made it 22-10 before
Grace Solberg put down the match-winning kill.
Â
The Royals are back on the court Saturday inside the Robertson Center against St. Scholastica at 7 p.m.
