ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team finds itself still in the race for a possible MIAC playoff spot earning a senior nigh victory over Concordia, 3-1.
The Royals came out strong in the first half, scoring three minutes into the contest when
Matthias Caspari found a loose ball in the box and headed it to senior
Ben Richburg who finished it off into the net.
Despite Concordia's many opportunities, a solid defensive performance held the Cobbers to no score in the first half with six shots on goal and four corner kicks.
About five minutes into the second half, BU expanded its lead after senior
Isaac Howell headed in a shot off of a straight shot thrown-in by
Zach Caouette.
In the 88th minute, Conordia put its first number on the board after a BU handball in the box, allowing for a successful penalty kick.
With just one minute left in the contest, freshman
Jack Hanson added a third goal to the board for the Royals scoring on a breakaway after a pass from
Ben Richburg drew the opponent's goalie out to defend.
BU finished the night with 13 shots on goal, outshooting its opponent by 10 and with eight shots on goal.
The Royals find themselves back on the pitch Friday night in Minneapolis where they face Augsburg at 7:30 p.m. In order to secure a MIAC Playoff spot the Royals will need a win and a Saint John's loss. The Johnnies take on Carleton Saturday.
