ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Facing it's second regionally ranked opponent of the week, the Bethel University men's soccer team surrendered four second half goals to Wisconsin-Platteville falling 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
The Pioneers broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute taking a ball from a Bethel defender and running the other way for a look from eight yards out.
It didn't take long for the Royals to respond scoring in the 27th minute on their only shot on goal of the half.
Yeng Xiong played a nice centering pass to
Keegan Mellema just inside the box where he made a quick turn beating the UWP defender on his back and shooting from eight yards out.
Just over two minutes into the second half UWP regained the lead scoring on a bullet shot from 23 yards out. It was a bad break for Bethel as a Pioneer player tried clearing the ball deflecting off a Royal and right to the goal scorer. UWP added three more goals over the next 20 minutes while holding Bethel to one shot on goal in the final 45 minutes.
The Royals hop back into MIAC play Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus beginning at 12:30 p.m.
