No. 16/17 Bethel Travels to Concordia for Pivotal MIAC Skyline Division Matchup

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel Royals hit the road for a critical MIAC division contest at Concordia College in Moorhead. The Royals and Cobbers are both 1-0 in the MIAC Skyline division as they chase the coveted top spot in the division in order to play for the MIAC championship in the final week of the season. The Cobbers are 2-3 overall on the season with their losses coming on a last second field goal to Valley City St. in the season opener, at Gustavus, and at home to No. 5-ranked Saint John's. CC defeated Macalester last week in St. Paul, just a couple miles north of where the Royals were playing Hamline, by a 34-27 score. No. 16/17 Bethel enters at 4-1 overall after the 49-7 victory over Hamline.

The Cobbers have traditionally been a run-oriented team, routinely ranking near the top of the MIAC in rushing but through the first five games of 2021 Concordia ranks second in the MIAC in passing at 290 yards per game. The Cobbers are averaging 116 yards per game on the ground, seventh best in the MIAC. Bethel's defense has been extremely stingy against the pass, giving up just 180 yards per game while picking off 11 passes, the most in the MIAC. The Royals are giving up just 12.2 points per game while scoring over 39 points per game. Bethel has been exceptional in three critical categories; turnovers, penalties and red zone scoring. BU has taken the ball away from their opponents 14 times while turning it over a league low twice. The Royals also have the fewest amount of penalties called at just 4.6 per game and 40.8 yards per game. In the red zone the Royals have scored touchdowns on 18 of their 21 trips.
