ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Giving up a pair of second half goals, the Bethel University women's soccer team came up short against the College of Saint Benedict Tuesday evening at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
Bethel held a 2-1 lead at the break, before the Bennies put in the game winner in the 85th minute.
While the Bennies broke the scoreless tie nearly eight minutes in, BU responded in the best way possible with a pair of goals before the break.
BU took advantage of its first set piece opportunity as a corner kick corner from
Bella Heckmann was headed in by
Abby Swanda just inside the near post.
Swanda was in on the action again as her free kick went off the crossbar on a save from the CSB keeper.
Rachel Waterman gave it another chance, but her header also went off the crossbar before
Lauren Davis cleaned it up heading in her team-leading fourth goal in the 42nd minute.
It didn't take long for CSB to find the tying goal with Roxy Veldman scoring her second of the afternoon four minutes into the second half.
The Royals has some quality looks while
Izzy Smith, who collected 10 saves, kept BU in it until that 85th minute. A Bennies player was able to split two Bethel defenders before taking a shot just outside the box getting it past Smith and just inside the left post.
The Royals will try and snap their four-match losing streak on the road at Saint Mary's Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
