Delia Labatt Nominated for 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – A record 605 student-athletes were nominated for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year award, among them is indoor & outdoor track and field standout Delia Labatt.

The honor was established in 1991 recognizing graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

A 2020 graduate and Cushing, Wis. native, Labatt is a six-time All-American and was part of the 4x400m relay squad that placed third at the indoor national meet and fourth at the outdoor national meet during the 2019 season. A three-time indoor MIAC Champion in the 400m dash, she recorded a first-place finish in the same event at the outdoor MIAC meet in 2018 while coming in as runner-up in 2019. She was a strong presence in the 4x4 relay who were 2020 indoor and 2019 outdoor MIAC champions.
Labatt's name is etched in the Royals record books holding the 400m indoor (55.91) and outdoor (55.86) record. She is also part of both 4x4 relays that hold the top times for the program's indoor and outdoor season.

A four-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, she is a biokinetics major with an emphasis in bioenergetics and has been named to the Dean's List all eight semesters as well as graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors. She is a three-time USTFCCCA Academic All-American and Academic All-Conference honoree. Most recently she was informed that her and her research partner successfully published their case study "Aerobic Glycolysis Couples Metabolic Syndrome to Alzheimer's Disease" in the Journal of Metabolic Syndrome.

She also has spent time volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters, Valentine Hills school and Special Olympics.

Conference offices will select up to two nominees each from their pool of member school nominees. All nominees who compete in a sport not sponsored by their school's primary conference, as well as associate conference nominees and independent nominees, will be considered by a selection committee. Then, the Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division.

From the Top 30, the Woman of the Year selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division and announce nine finalists. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year, who will be named this fall.
