Royals Overcome Offensive Struggles to Defeat Concordia

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Second half adjustments paved the way for the Bethel University men's basketball team to defeat Concordia College 73-63 Wednesday evening inside the Robertson Center.

The Royals overcame early shooting troubles finishing 45.5 percent from the field improving to 14-6 on the year and 11-4 in MIAC play. Bethel hits the road this Saturday traveling to Saint Mary's for a 1 p.m. tip.

Junior forward Chandler Wellman had a standout out night, thanks to a 13-point second half, with a career-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jack Jenson played all but 30 seconds pouring in a season-high 23 points. Isaiah Carver-Bagley rounded out the top scorers with 14 and a game-high eight boards.

The Royals went into halftime tied for the first time this season after neither team held a lead larger than six in the first half. Bethel found an answer to a tough first half of shooting where it went 9-of-28 (32.1 percent) from the field.

Wellman kick started his second half surge helping Bethel take a 38-30 lead five minutes in with a 9-0 run. The Royals got the lead to double digits before Concordia made a run of its own pulling within eight.

Eight straight makes from the charity stripe in the final minute sealed the Royals fourth straight victory.
