WINONA, Minn. – The Bethel University men's basketball team erased an 11-point halftime deficit before late free throws from Saint Mary's downed the Royals Saturday on the road, 63-59.
The loss snaps the Royals four-game winning streak dropping them to 15-6 on the year and 11-5 in MIAC play. Things don't get easier as BU hosts top-10 ranked St. Thomas next Wednesday inside the Robertson Center at 7 p.m.
Isaiah Carver-Bagley was two shy of his career-best with 23 points while knocking down five treys and grabbing seven rebounds.
Chandler Wellman provided 11 points and five boards while
Jack Jenson chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.
Jenson knocked down the game's opening bucket from behind the arc but it was all Saint Mary's in the first half where the Royals trailed 36-25 at the break.
Bethel went on an 11-0 run to open the second half tying it at 36-36 with 13:46 to go. The Royals never gained the lead back despite tying it on three more occasions down the stretch.
Hudson Urbanus knocked down his only 3-pointer of the game cutting it to 59-57 with 2:45 remaining.
The Royals went without a field goal the rest of the way while the Cardinals knocked down a pair of free throws with 6.9 seconds to seal the victory.
The Royals finished 20-of-57 (35.1 percent) from the field while the Cardinals held the rebound advantage by a narrow 35-33 margin.
