Women's 4x4 Leads Nation as Royals Win 5 Events at the U of M

RESULTS

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Friday was a historic night for the Bethel Royals track and field teams. The Royals delivered top-20 nationally ranked results in 5 different events, led by the women's 4x400m relay team that put up a national-leading time. "It was an incredible night for our athletes," said Head Coach Andrew Rock.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Hannah Sankey (58.14), Corin McKinstrey (58.50), Mikayla Turek (58.05), and Delia Labatt (56.67) ran away from a field that included the Minnesota Golden Gophers to win in a time of 3:51.81. That is the fastest time in school history on a flat 200m track.

Not to be outdone, the men's 4x400m relay team of Joel Smith (49.99), Isaac Erickson (49.07), Josh Sampson (49.71), and Shawn Monroe (49.58) also won their race that included a Division I team from Minnesota. Their winning time of 3:18.77 is the 3rd best time in Division III this year.

The hurdle races produced two more nationally ranked performances. Bethel's fantastic freshmen Kelsie Sealock and Josh Sampson both came away with victories in the 60m hurdles. Sealock edged out a runner from the University of Minnesota to earn the win by a mere .003 second. Her time of 8.83 is a school record and currently ranks 5th in Division III. Sampson also outran the field and edged out a Gopher to win the race in 8.23. That time is the 3rd best time in school history and ranks 19th on the Division III honor roll.

Senior Delia Labatt ran a season best time in her specialty, the 400m. The 5-time All-American again edged out the field of Big 10 runners to take the victory for the Royals. Her time of 57.43 ranks 7th in Division III.

The Royals also saw several other season bests on Friday evening. Malachi Lossow ran the best time of his 2020 indoor campaign in the 200m by taking 5th place in 22.75. Tyler Sealock also placed in the 200m with his season best time of 23.24 for 8th. Freshman Britta Nordberg ran 1:00.40 in the 400m, also placing 5th overall. Cooper Hitt and Emily Brockberg both won their heats of the 600m run. Hitt took 4th place with his time of 1:24.39. Brockberg ran a personal best of 1:41.37 for 5th place. Ezekiel Lelinga took 4th place in the 800m by racing to a season best time of 1:57.87.

The Royals enter their championship season next week as they run, jump, and throw in the MIAC Indoor Championships. The conference meet will be held at St. John's University on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday February 27th-29th. Meet information can be found at the MIAC Championships Website.
