ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel Royals ran away with 9 event victories at their annual home meet, the Gene Glader Classic. "Our women's team did a great job of competing hard and lifting each other up," said Head Coach
Andrew Rock. "We had some great performances from all event areas."
Bethel had freshmen win the two shortest running events of the day. Jireah Babalola won the 60m dash in a personal record time of 8.16.
Lauren Richards took 2nd place in 8.35, a personal record. Fellow freshman
Britta Nordberg won the 200m in 26.84, the second best time in the MIAC this season. Teammate
Lauren Conradi took 3rd place in the 200m with a time of 28.68.
Delia Labatt led the way for a Bethel sweep in the 400m. Labatt won the race with the best season opener of her career, 58.06.
Hannah Sankey also had a terrific opener at 400m with her time of 58.58 that placed her 2nd.
Corin McKinstrey took 3rd place and earned a massive personal best with her time of 1:00.12. Labatt's time of 58.06 currently ranks 5th in Division III at 400m, while Sankey's time of 58.58 ranks 11th, and McKinstrey's time of 1:00.12 is 37th.
Freshman
Mikayla Turek moved up a distance to race the 600m. Turek won the race in an impressive time of 1:41.71.
Emily Brockberg ran a solid time of 1:43.69 for 2nd place.
Grace Cole took home 1st place in the 800m, running 2:30.84, while
Ellie Cargill took 3rd in 2:34.02.
Anna Hage raced the 1000m run for the first time this season. Her time of 3:16.70 placed her 2nd overall.
Meg Thorison ran tough and dropped a 7 second season best in the mile to take 3rd place with her time of 5:36.69.
The Royals also won both relay events. After the 400m, Labatt, Sankey, and McKinstrey teamed up with Nordberg to run 1:46.59 to win the 4x200m relay, the top time in the MIAC this year. The distance runners put together a 4x400m relay team that crossed the finish line in 1st place. Cargill, Cole,
Erika Swanson, and
Lydia Crow ran 4:30.71 for a convincing win.
Syri Williams earned two victories on the day. Williams ran a season best time in the 60m hurdles of 9.67 to win the race. Teammate
Cynthia Garcia Balmaceda took 3rd in the hurdles with her time of 10.86. Williams also won the long jump at the start of the day. After a consistent set of jumps, her best leap of 16'5.75"/5.02m was enough for the victory. Fellow multi-event athlete
Jacy Roste earned 2nd place in the long jump with 16'4.5"/4.99m.
Kayli Knighton-Johnson jumped a season best 33'3.75"/10.15m in the triple jump, good enough for third place. Freshman
Jessica Lilland matched her lifetime best in the pole vault of 10'6"/3.20m, to take 2nd place.
Sadie Koelz vaulted over 9'6.25"/2.90m to take 3rd place.
The Royals will continue their indoor season next week at the Hamster Invite hosted by Macalester College. The field events begin on Friday at 5:30 PM, and running begins at 6:00 PM.
