ST. PAUL, Minn. – A second half surge on the offensive end led the Bethel University men's basketball team to a 69-54 road win at Hamline Saturday afternoon inside historic Hutton Arena.
Going 16-of-23 from the floor in the final 20 minutes, the Royals outscored the Pipers 43-23 improving them to 12-6 on the year and 9-4 in MIAC play. BU is back on the hardwood next Saturday hosting Macalester at 1 p.m.
Senior guard
Jack Jenson recorded his third career double-double with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five steals.
Isaiah Carver-Bagley kept the Royals in it during the first half where seven of 16 points came.
Hudson Urbanus and
Chandler Wellman each finished with nine points respectively.
Trailing by five at the half, it wasn't until the 12:40 mark that Bethel gained its first lead of the contest overcoming what had been an 11-point deficit at one point. The lead changed two more times before
Noah Whalen knocked down a 3-pointer giving BU the advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Carver-Bagley knocked down his second three ball of the game capping a 15-0 run, giving the Royals its largest lead of the contest at 67-49 with 3:49 left.
The Pipers led by as many as 10 in the first half before going cold from the field with only eight second-half makes. BU's defense forced the Pipers into 15 turnovers that turned into 22 points. Hamline shot 21-of-53 (39.6 percent) from the floor for the game.
