Richburg’s Overtime Winner Keeps Royals Unbeaten

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Overtime was needed to decide the Bethel University men's soccer team's fate against Cornell College Saturday afternoon. The Royals carried their second half momentum into the overtime period where Ben Richburg scored in the 99th minute keeping Bethel perfect for the season.

BU makes the quick turnaround taking its 4-0 record to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville tomorrow for a 1 p.m. start.

Freshman Isaac Howell continues to be on a tear collecting his third game-winning assist. Howell saw Richburg beat his defender on the right allowing for an open look. Richburg took a few dribbles in to draw out the Cornell defender before slipping it past, scoring his first goal of the season.

Despite being outshot 10-4 in a scoreless first half, the Royals picked up momentum down the stretch of the second. A pair of red cards issued to Cornell in the final eight minutes gave an extra boost to the Bethel offense who had a last second look from Howell before the 90 minutes surpassed.

Bethel dominated the overtime period firing off three shots, one of which would find the back of the net to give Bethel its second shutout win of the year.
