Bethel Suffers First Set Back of the Season

Platteville, Wis. – The Bethel University men's soccer team suffered its first set back of the 2019 season dropping a 5-0 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Sunday afternoon. Four second half goals propelled the host Pioneers past the Royals who come away 4-1 after opening the season on a five-game road trip.

Bethel is back in action Wednesday, Sept. 11 for its first home match of the season welcoming the University of Wisconsin-Superior. First touch is scheduled 4 p.m.

Bethel, who was coming off an overtime match from yesterday, had two early looks from Connor Nelson before the Pioneers struck first just under 10 minutes into the match. UW-Platteville took its 1-0 lead into the break out shooting the Royals 7-3 in the first 45 minutes.

The Pioneers pushed their lead to two with a goal 2:20 into the second half. Bethel tried to respond getting a good look from Nelson in the 57th minute. Down in numbers Nelson fired a rocket towards the frame but a quick reflex by the Pioneers goalkeeper kept BU off the scoreboard.

Down the stretch, Platteville broke down the back line with goals in the 78th and 82nd minute. The Pioneers tacked on one more in the 87th minute making it 5-0.

Bethel denied the Pioneers of a shutout with Mu Ku Shi scoring on a free kick from about 22 yards out with just under two minutes to play. It was Ku Shi's first collegiate career goal.
