ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – For the seventh time this season the Bethel University women's soccer team kept its opponent out of the back of the net. A trio of first half goals led the Royals to a 3-0 victory over Hamline Saturday afternoon at Ona Orth.
Another strong offense performance aided by three saves from
Kaylee Peterson, the Royals continue to add on to its best start in program history at 8-0. Now 2-0 in MIAC play, BU heads to Macalester Wednesday taking on the Scots at 7:30.
Scoring in her second straight match was junior
Claire Radatz who opened up the scoring in the 7th minute. Senior
Sierra Smith sent a perfect ball into the box where sophomore
Rachel Waterman was able to tap it past the Hamline goalkeeper where Radatz tapped it in right in front of the net.
Waterman got in on the scoring working up the left side and past a pair of Piper defenders. Ending up at the top of the box Waterman took a right footed shot that had just enough bend on it to sneak in off the right post in the 17th minute.
Senior
Adri Tjeerdsma broke her 45-match goal scoring drought. Playing as a primary defender through her Royal career, Tjeerdsma scored her second career goal – her first coming midway through her freshman year – in the 42nd minute making it 3-0. Waterman picked up her second assist of the game and MIAC-leading seventh of the season.
The Royals outshot the Pipers 22-10 in the match and held possession for just over half of the match.
