Multi-Goal Efforts by Waterman and Davis Send Royals Past Concordia

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – A two goal and two assist effort by sophomores Rachel Waterman and Lauren Davis aided the Bethel University women's soccer team to defeat Concordia College 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.

Waterman and Davis combined for all four of Bethel's first half goals improving the Royals to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in MIAC play. BU puts its unbeaten streak on the line Wednesday when they take on the University of Wisconsin-Superior on the road. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.

In the blink of an eye Bethel was on the board with Waterman scoring her third goal of the year in the 4th minute. Sophie Kendall sent a pass to the top of the box where Lauren Davis took one touch before pushing it forward for Waterman to knock it in.
Over 13 minutes later it was Waterman again who was faced with a penalty kick opportunity. The Cobber goalkeeper made a diving save allowing Waterman to run in and score off the rebound.

Davis scored her first of the game in the 16th minute on a strike from 32 yards out which found the upper right 90 perfectly. In the 35th minute she scored her ninth goal of the season as Waterman played a cross in from the right side allowing Davis to tap it in from a few feet out.

Concordia made second half adjustments testing goalie Kaylee Peterson in the second half where all seven of her saves came.

It was in the 72nd minute that Concordia broke Bethel's 521 minute streak of not allowing a goal. The Royals came in to today's game as one of three schools in Division III to have yet to allow a goal until a loose ball inside of six yards was headed in by the Cobbers.

Concordia cut the Bethel lead down to two sending a strike of its own from outside the box and into the upper 90 over the hands of Peterson. Bethel added an insurance goal in the 88th minute as Davis played a ball to the left from the top of the box where Kendall tapped it in.

The Royals outshot Concordia 22-14 in the match as well as 15-9 in the shots on goal battle.
