Kendall’s First Half Hat Trick Leads Royals Past Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. – For the second consecutive match the Bethel University women's soccer team collected six goals and had a player notch a hat trick with all three goals coming consecutively. Junior Sophie Kendall notched a hat trick in the first half leading the Royals to a 6-0 victory over Northland College Sunday afternoon.

Kendall's first goal came seven minutes into the match tapping in a nice centering pass from Adri Tjeerdsma with her right foot. A near four minutes later Kendall made it 2-0 scoring on a pass from Sierra Smith

In the 18th minute Kendall completed the hat trick becoming the second Royal in as many games to complete the accomplishment with three consecutive goals. Caela Helgemo took the BU corner kick –one of 17 corners in the match for Bethel – placing it about nine yards out where Kendall had ended up out of the set piece. A header to the back of the net pushed the Bethel lead out to three.

The offense continued to highlight themselves in the first half as Lauren Davis scored in the 23rd minute. Davis, who tallied a hat trick Friday against Northwestern in the span of 3:01 – the seventh fastest three consecutive goals by an individual in Division III history – scored once again in the 55th minute on a penalty kick.

Starting goalkeeper Kaylee Peterson was not tested much as the back line kept the Jills out of the shot column. The Royals outshot NC 48-0 with 38 of those shots being on goal.

Junior Leah Vigil found the back of the net for the second time this season making it 6-0 in the 86th minute.

The Royals remain in non-conference action Wednesday traveling to Bethany Lutheran College. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
