ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Sophomore
Lauren Davis only needed 3:01 to net her first career hat trick leading the Royals to a 6-0 season opening victory over the University of Northwestern Friday evening. A pair of first half goals from
Jess Van Wyk and
Leah Vigil set the tone before BU found the back of the net four times in the final 45 minutes.
The rookie Van Wyk put Bethel on the board in the 33rd minute after multiple good looks from the Royals. The Northwestern goalkeeper cleared a ball out about 30 yards before
Tessah Anderson and
Brooke Ogne set up Van Wyk to fire it right back in.
Leah Vigil gave Bethel a two goal lead 10 minutes later when her header hit the bottom of the cross bar and bounced in behind the Northwestern goalkeeper.
Bethel's defense held strong not allowing a shot in the first 45 minutes. Starting goalkeeper Kayla Peterson had to make just one save as the Eagles fired off four shots, all of which came in the second half.
Davis worked her way to scoring in the 62nd minute before pushing the Royals lead to five scoring in the 64th and 65th minute.
Brooke Ogne joined the scoring party with her 13th career goal in the 78th minute.
