BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2019 volleyball postseason award winners and among those honored was
Maria Claflin,
Hannah Wilhite and
Dominique Dabu. Claflin and Wilhite become two-time All-Conference honorees while Dabu was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team.
Playing as a junior middle blocker, Claflin was a steady presence for the Royals all season long. The Dayton, Minn. native and Champlin park graduate tallied a team-leading 359 kills averaging 3.55 kills per set which ranked third in the MIAC. Against conference foes she tallied 138 kills, which ranked as the fourth most, and hit .259 in the 11-game span. She was also second on the team with 79 blocks and 23 service aces.
The reigning Rookie of the Year, Wilhite finds herself as one of three setters to be named All-MIAC. The sophomore out of Louisville, Ky. played a big role as a setter and hitter for the Royals where she tallied a team-leading 702 assists and was third on the team in kills with 206. Wilhite was just one of two setters in the MIAC who averaged at least one kill and five assists per set. Against MIAC foes she averaged 6.32 assists per set.
As part of a Conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the 14th-annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for volleyball. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the court. Senior
Dominique Dabu was selected to represent the Royals on this prestigious list.
Bethel concluded its season with a 17-11 overall record and 6-5 mark in the MIAC. The Royals appeared in its sixth consecutive MIAC Playoffs, the longest current active streak, and eighth in the last nine seasons.
