Waterman’s OT Game-Winner Sends Bethel to MIAC Semifinals

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Add another accomplishment to the record books as the No. 6 seeded Bethel University women's soccer team picked up the program's first-ever MIAC playoff win in a 3-2 overtime victory over third-seeded St. Catherine Tuesday afternoon.

The win improves the Royals to 14-5 which also captures a program record for wins in a single season. BU makes the quick turnaround for the MIAC semifinals where they travel to No. 2 seeded St. Thomas tomorrow. Start time is set for 2 p.m.

Getting past two defenders was sophomore Rachel Waterman in the 94th minute. Making a good push to the box she fired one off from about nine yards out sending it pass the SCU keeper and into the far bottom corner for the golden goal. It was Waterman's second goal of the day after she converted a penalty kick in the first half. Waterman also makes history tying the program's single-season record for goals in a season with 14.

St. Catherine tied it up with converting on a penalty kick of its own which came two minutes after Waterman's. But it was junior forward Claire Radatz who sent Bethel with a 2-1 lead into the break.

In the 41st minute, Radatz chased down a ball that was hugging the sideline. After gaining possession she made a nifty move getting past a Wildcat defender. She may have had intent to cross it into the box but instead it sailed over the SCU keeper and into the back of the net from a tough angle.

The Wildcats tied it up at 2-2 scoring on a set piece from the corner in the 55th minute. From that point on goalkeeper Kaylee Peterson was lights out recording a career-high 16 saves, 10 which came in the second half. Peterson moves into fifth all-time with 202 career saves.
