St. Olaf Dials in From Long Distance to Defeat Royals

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's basketball fell to St. Olaf Tuesday evening 92-64 as the visiting Oles couldn't miss a shot  going 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from 3-point range.

The Royals fall to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in the MIAC while taking a week off from action. BU hits the road on Wednesday, Dec. 4 where they take on Carleton at 7 p.m.

Senior guard Hudson Urbanus led all Royals with 14 points while junior guard Jamal Davis added 13 points with three first half 3-pointers. Isaiah Carver-Bagley had a strong second half finishing with 11 points. Jack Jenson was productive on both ends of the court with a game-high six assists and a team-high five rebounds.

Bethel started hot from long distance hitting four of their first five threes. St. Olaf was shooting just as well tying it up at 19-19 with 12:31 left in the half. A layup from Urbanus at the 7:53 mark would be the Royals only points until under a minute where Granger Kingland knocked down a pair of free throws. St. Olaf took advantage of the seven-plus minute drought going on a 19-0 run for a 50-30 halftime lead.

The Royals picked up a little momentum out of the break scoring on their first three possessions, but the Oles responded with more threes forcing BU to gain no ground. A 7-0 run for Bethel got it to a 19-point deficit but getting to the lane was St. Olaf pushing it back to a 28-point spread.

With Bethel going cold from 3-point range in the final 20 minutes (5-of-15), the Oles gained their largest lead of the game at 89-55 with 3:27 remaining. Coming off the bench in the final three minutes, Peter Bassett and Coleton Barz each knocked down a 3-ball.
