Royals Bested by St. Kate’s in Season Finale, Eyes MIAC Playoffs

ST. PAUL, Minn. – In the final game of the regular season the Bethel University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at St. Catherine's on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Both teams came in knowing they were in the field of six for the MIAC Playoffs. But with the loss, Bethel will be the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will have a rematch with St. Kate's, who earned the No. 3 seed.

Falling to 13-5 on the year, BU closes out MIAC play with a 6-5 record. The rematch between the Royals and Wildcats takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in St. Paul. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

The Wildcats controlled the pace of play early with many set piece opportunities following a handful of Bethel fouls. SCU broke the scoreless tie in the 19th minute getting past the Bethel back line.

In the 33rd minute, Rachel Waterman was pushed from behind in the box while receiving a cross from Claire Radatz. Waterman converted the penalty kick for her 12th goal of the season.

On a snow-covered spot in the box, Adri Tjeerdsma and a SCU offensive player were battling one-on-one as both fell to the ground and Tjeerdsma was whistled for the foul. That set up a penalty kick opportunity in the 60th minute as the Wildcats converted.

The Wildcats fired off shots left and right at goalkeeper Kaylee Peterson in the second half. Peterson was strong stopping all but one. Peterson finished the game with a career-high 13 saves.
