Men’s Soccer Comes up Short Against Saint John’s

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team was defeated by Saint John's 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in the Royals final conference matchup of the season. The Johnnies used a goal in the 62nd minute breaking the 1-1 tie before holding on the rest of the way.

The Royals, now 6-10-1 on the year, finish 1-8-1 in MIAC play. BU closes out the season Saturday at Ona Orth hosting Wisconsin-Superior at 1 p.m.

Freshman Isaac Howell found the equalizer 25 seconds after the Johnnies scored the game's first goal in the 39th minute. A long pass from the back line made its way up to Zach Cauouttee whose cross deflected off of an SJU defender and went right to Howell. Just outside the box Howell sent a bullet to the back of the net evening it up at 1-1 with his first collegiate goal.

Out of the break, Bethel offensively was in a good spot. A few opportunities on the horizon were diminished with a pair of offside calls. In the 62nd minute SJU handled it on the near sideline before precision passing landed them an open look from the top of the box finding the upper 90 for the game winner.

Bethel was outshot for the match 20-11 while the shots on goal were much closer at 8-6.
