WINONA, Minn. – For the ninth time this season the Bethel University women's soccer team kept its opponent off the scoreboard defeating Saint Mary's 4-0 Saturday afternoon. That mark – coming 12 matches into the season – matches the program record that was recorded in 2009 where the Royals accomplished the feat in 18 games.
Improving to 10-2 on the year and 4-2 in MIAC play the Royals wrap up a short road trip at Gustavus Adolphus Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Sophomore
Caela Helgemo had her first collegiate multi-goal performance netting Bethel's first goal and eventual game-winner in the 12th minute with an assist from
Rachel Waterman. After Waterman found the back of the net in the 35th minute, Helgemo netted her second of the match after the break in the 58th minute.
Playing in less than ideal conditions with below freezing temperatures, the Royals continued to hound the Cardinals defense and freshman goalkeeper Alexi Nguyen who was making her first collegiate start.
Claire Radatz scored in her second straight match bringing the lead to 4-0 in the 84th minute.
Lauren Davis captured the assist bringing her season total to six.
Kaylee Peterson stopped all there of Saint Mary's on target shots putting her at exactly 150 saves for her career.
