Urbanus, Ambriz Combine for 32 Points in Royals Win over Gustavus Adolphus

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Strong guard play from the Bethel University men's basketball team earned the Royals an 83-64 victory over Gustavus Adolphus Monday evening inside the Robertson Center.

Senior guard Matt Ambriz and junior guards Jack Jenson and Hudson Urbanus combined for 43 of the Royals 83 points. Shooting 35-of-65 (53.8 percent) from the field while limiting themselves to seven turnovers, the Royals improve to 10-7 on the year and 7-5 in the MIAC. Bethel brings its two-game winning streak on the road to Carleton where they will face the Knights Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

Urbanus led all scorers with a game-high 17 points off the bench. It wasn't until the second half that he heated up scoring 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.  Ambriz and Jenson both contributed 16 points apiece. Barker filled that stat sheet falling one rebound short of the double-double. The MIAC's leading distributor tallied an effective six assists to go along with 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds in 26 minutes of action.

Opening the game on a 19-9 run through the first six minutes of play, the Royals trailed for a mere 28 seconds in Monday's contest.  Gustavus (7-10, 4-8 MIAC) chipped away at the Bethel lead pulling within four with 5:19 left to go in the first half. The 24 first half points in the paint by the Royals were too much for the Gusties as BU took a 40-30 lead into the break.

Bethel kept its double digit lead the entire second half.  Urbanus knocked down his third 3-pointer of the half to give the Royals their largest lead of the contest at 77-53 with 5:16 remaining. The Royals continued to take it to the hole where they finished the game with a 50-26 points in the paint advantage. BU dominated the boards out rebounding the Gusties 38-25.
