NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior guard
Granger Kingland opened Wednesday's 90-56 win at Carleton with back-to-back threes. The early six points put the Lake Mills, Iowa native past the 1,000 career point mark before he finished with a game-high 19 points.
The Royals picked up their third straight win to improve to 11-7 on the year and 8-5 in the MIAC. Bethel returns home to the Robertson Center as part of a MIAC doubleheader with the women's team against Maclaester on Saturday. Tip-off for the men is set for 3 p.m.
Kingland's 19 points came on 8-of-13 shooting including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Junior guard
Jack Jenson was right behind Kingland with 18 points to go along with four assists.
Matt Ambriz scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting while
Hudson Urbanus contributed 12 points off the bench.
Derek Magnuson recorded a game-high five assists while
Chandler Wellman grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds.
A layup by Jenson capped off a 13-4 run for the Royals through the first 5:33 of play. Bethel's lead went to double-digits three minutes later as Ambriz laid in the put back off his own miss. The strong defense of Bethel held the Knights to a near five minute drought towards the closing parts of the first. Urbanus' fast break layup with 3:35 remaining gave BU its largest lead of the half at 36-14 before taking a 16 point lead into the locker room.
The second half was no different as Bethel continued to add to its lead. Jenson tallied 12 of his 18 in the second including five consecutive points to give Bethel a 69-42 lead with 9:04 left. A layup by
Isaiah Rollins recorded the Royals largest margin of the game at 90-54 as the final 35 seconds ticked away.
For the second straight game the Royals committed single digit turnover numbers with nine. Bethel's bench outscored Carleton's 29-14 while also holding the edge inside with a 52-34 margin on points in the paint.
