WAVERLY, Iowa – The Bethel Royals volleyball team traveled to Iowa to take on Wartburg College, who they played in first game of the season, and came back with a win by scores of 25-16, 24-26, 25-16, and 25-13.
The Royals (14-3) took an early four-point lead in the first set and the Knights (7-8) came back swinging, but Bethel did not let that stop them and took the first set 25-16. Set two was a back and forth battle with BU staying a head during the middle of the set but a few slip ups led Wartburg to win the second set 26-24. Fighting hard in the third set, Bethel and Wartburg bounced between scores but Bethel's 5-0 run kept them ahead and finished off the set 25-16. The Royals fell slightly behind in the beginning of the fourth set when a solid kill gave the team the jumpstart they needed to go on an 8-0 run ending the final set 25-13.
Bethel totaled 75 points on 55 kills, eight aces, and 12 blocks while also accumulating 54 assists and 64 digs.
Macie Gavic and
Maria Claflin both ended the evening with 15 kills each.
Hannah Wilhite brought in a solid 48 assists while
Allie Fauth and
Brooke Olstad each totaled a substantial 19 and 12 digs each.
The Royals will return to Arden Hills on Friday evening to take on Hamline University at 7 p.m.
