ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University volleyball team put up quite the fight against Hamline University and ended on top with a 3-0 win against the Pipers with scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-18.
The Royals started of the first set trailing the Pipers by a few points until an ace by Bethel tied the set up at 15-15. Bethel trailed again when a much-needed kill put them ahead and set them off on a 7-0 run to win the set 25-19. After a tough start to the first set, the Royals made sure to start the second set off strong and a 5-0 run helped them achieve that. Hamline put up a battle and tied the set 14-14 but that did not stop BU and they went full force to finish the set 25-21. Bethel started the third set with a solid kill which kept them ahead the whole way ending with a score of 25-18.
The Royals gathered up 57 points on 43 kills, six aces and eight blocks while also mustering up 42 assists and 63 digs.
Tina Hoppe ended the match with 12 kills.
Brooke Olstad compiled nine kills and 15 digs while
Maria Claflin stacked up eight kills and four blocks.
Hannah Wilhite had an excellent evening dishing out 34 assists.
Allie Fauth raked in 17 digs.
Bethel will be staying home this weekend to take on a pair of very good opponents in St. Olaf College at 1 p.m. and Muhlenberg College at 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Robertson Center. St. Olaf and Muhlenberg will play each other in between at 3 p.m.
