ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Bethel University women's soccer team traveled to the Quad Cities area to take on Augustana College, and what was an evenly played game early on turned into an easy 4-0 victory for the host Vikings after Bethel was assessed a red card in the 24th minute. Britney Monteon shot off the cross bar. The Vikings where able to create a breakaway opportunity and Bethel goalie
Kaylee Peterson went out to attempt to clear the ball but collided with the Augustana attacker and caught her feet. The official gave a red card to Peterson, putting the Royals down a player for the rest of the game. To make matters worse, the Vikings converted the ensuing free kick into a goal to go up 1-0.
Augustana would go on to score three more times against the shorthanded Royals, once in the first period and twice in the second. Bethel still managed to outshoot Augustana for the game 14-10 but the Vikings held a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal, four of those finding the back of the net.
Next up for Bethel is a pair of home games on Thursday and Friday afternoons at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex. Thursday the Royals will take on Bethany Lutheran at 4:15 p.m. following the 2 p.m. men's game and Friday they host Northland College at 4 p.m.
