ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University volleyball team put up quite the fight against the College of Saint Benedict but, after a tough battle, lost to the Bennie's with scores of 20-25, 23-25, and 16-25.
The Royals trailed the Bennie's for most of the first set but did not let that keep them down and went on a 5-0 run to hold Saint Benedict on match point but a kill from CSB led them to take the first set. Bethel took the lead early in the second set with a score of 8-7 and the two teams went head-to-head to keep the score tied most of the match. The Royals trailed Saint Benedict in the middle of the set and another 5-0 run kept them in the game. Saint Benedict responded with a 4-0 run to take set two. BU went on to another early lead in the third set but CSB stayed right behind them and after tying the set 12-12, Saint Benedict went on to take the third set.
The Royals gathered up 45 points on 40 kills, three aces, and two blocks while also mustering up 38 assists and 86 digs.
Macie Gavic ended the evening with 10 kills while
Maria Claflin and
Emily Klassen ended with eight kills each.
Hannah Wilhite compiled 32 assists.
Allie Fauth raked in 27 digs.
Bethel volleyball hits the road heading to Moorhead, Minnesota to take on Concordia College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
