BLOOMINGTON, Minn.—Bethel University's
Matt Ambriz became the program's first player to receive Athlete of the Week honors during the 2017-18 campaign. The league announced Monday that Ambriz, who helped the Royals finish 3-0 during the last week, was voted as the MIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

BU began their week with a 73-63 victory over Hamline in St. Paul on Monday, January 8. Ambriz posted 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting, including a 2-of-5 effort from long range, and three rebounds.

The Royals then defeated Augsburg in Minneapolis by a score of 78-67 on Wednesday, January 10. Ambriz had his best performance of the week, finishing with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including a 5-of-7 display from outside the arc.

Bethel sealed a perfect week by defeating Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, January 13. Ambriz came in second on the team in scoring with 19 points, to go along with two assists and two rebounds. The junior was 6-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-7 from downtown once again.

Over the course of the seven-day span, Ambriz was 17-of-31 (.548) from the floor, 12-of-19 (.632) from 3-point range, and 9-of-10 (.900) from the charity stripe for 55 points (18.3 per game), seven rebounds, and five assists.
