WINONA, Minn. - The Bethel University men's soccer team traveled south to Saint Mary's University and saw the Cardinals strike twice in the first half and take a 2-1 victory over the Royals.
Joey Gronseth scored for the Royals in the second half but unfortunately for Bethel it was the only shot of the second period and one of just two in the game for the Royals. SMU's two goals came within seven minutes of each other midway through the first half as the Cardinals outshot Bethel 13-2 for the game but just five of the Cardinals 13 shots were on goal.
Gronseth's score came on a header off an assist from
Kevin Hintz. It was the second goal of the season for Gronseth.
Jakob Bartels made three saves for Bethel.
Bethel drops to 1-2 in the MIAC and 3-6-1 overall while Saint Mary's improved to 1-3 and 5-5. The Royals will host the Saint John's University Johnnies on Saturday at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
