MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethel University men's soccer team found themselves in a battle with the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings Tuesday night but pulled out a victory with an overtime goal by
Kevin Hintz, his second of the game, for the 3-2 victory. The Royals drastically outshot the Vikings, 28-10 and 16-5 on shots on goal, but the Vikings scored on a penalty kick with just 2:03 left in the game to tie things up at 2-2.
BLC was able to strike first in the game with a header goal in the 17th minute off of a corner kick. Bethel was able to respond in the 26th minute with Hintz scoring his first goal, unassisted. Just five minutes into the second half
Connor Miller gave the Royals a lead that appeared as if it would hold up. Miller's goal was assisted by
Gavin Matson. The Vikings had just five shots in the second half but with 2:03 remaining BLC was awarded a penalty kick and converted to send the game to overtime. Hintz and the Royals wasted little time as just 45 seconds in the Royals converted the only shot needed in OT period, giving Bethel the 3-2 win.
The victory improves the Royals to 3-4-1 overall as they will take on an undefeated, 6-0, Simpson College team Wednesday afternoon at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex. Kickoff will be at 4 p.m.
