The Bethel Royals lost to the Augsburg University Auggies 2-1 in a tight game that went back and forth until Taylor Sullivan scored the game winning goal in the 88
th minute of the game.
The first half ended in a scoreless tie as both teams were feeling each other out. The Royals had an excellent chance early in the first half but
Connor Nelson's shot hit the top of the crossbar and was not a goal. The second half had aggressive play and scoring. There were 20 total fouls during the game, yet only one yellow card was called. The Auggies finally put the ball in the back of net in the 70
th minute on a great individual play by Lionel Vang. It did not take the Royals long to answer the goal by Vang and score one of their own. JT Thweatt in the 75
th minute scored a goal thanks to a lovely assist by
Andrew Hintz. Finally, the game winning goal was scored in the 87
th minute when a nice pass from Augsburg's Tommy Picka found the foot of Taylor Sullivan who scored.
There were very little shots on goal in the game. The Royals had two shots on goal and the Auggies had three shots on goal meaning each team recorded a total of one save each.
The Royals fall to 1-1 in conference play 2-4-1 overall. Bethel will play at Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday. They will return home Wednesday when they host Simpson College at Ona Orth. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
