RESULTS
MINNEAPOLIS—The Bethel University women's tennis team fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Eagles of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse by a score of 4-5. The Eagles are currently the No. 15-ranked team in the region. The Royals started with singles where they won four out of the six matches. The matches came right down to the wire as Bethel lost the first set in every match. Doubles was a different story, though, as the Royals lost all three.
Mattie Kidder fell at No. 1 singles to one of the best players in the nation by scores of 1-6, 1-6. No. 2 singles player
Sydney Parkinson also lost in a competitive match 4-6, 3-6. After losing the first two singles matches, the Royals rallied to take the next four. No. 3 singles player
Jill Weinzettel won in an exciting third set tiebreaker after dropping the first set 3-6. From there, she won the next two sets 7-5, 11-9. The Royals continued to roll as
Sami Hindt won her match 2-6, 6-4, and 10-5 at No. 4 singles.
Anna Browning and
Meghan Schuler followed in similar fashion winning at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. Browning won with scores of 4-6, 6-4 and 11-9 in a third set tiebreaker. Schuler also lost her first set 3-6 before winning the next two 7-5 and 10-5. Bethel was unable to keep the momentum going as they came up short in all three doubles matches.
"It was a real heartbreaking loss," Head Coach Drew Fernelius said. "The girls just really left it out there and played their hearts out."
The Royals will look to rebound next Saturday as they take on the Cardinals of Saint Mary's University. The match will be played at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Start time is scheduled to be 6:30 p.m.
