ST. PETER, Minn.— A shorthanded Bethel University women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season to a talented Gustavus squad Saturday morning. Bethel struggled to gain any sort of momentum, as the Gusties opened by sweeping all three doubles matches. The Royals were unable to recover, losing all singles matches, for a final score of 9-0.
The closest doubles match of the day proved to be with No. 1 doubles pair
Mattie Kidder and
Jill Weinzettel, falling 8-4. Other doubles matches were
Sami Hindt and
Mattie Lubben at No. 2 doubles, who lost 8-2. The No. 3 pairing of
Meghan Schuler and
Rachel Knutson fell 8-0. Singles proved to be just as tough for the Royals. No. 5 singles
Meghan Schuler played a tight match losing 4-6 and 3-6. Other close matches on the day came at No. 2 singles where
Jill Weinzettel lost 0-6 before losing in a tight second set 6-7.
The Royals look to rebound next Sunday afternoon as they face-off against Carleton College at 3:30 p.m. The match will be held at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.
