Gronseth's OT Header Gives Bethel 2-1 Win Over Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Bethel University men's soccer team scored a big win on the road Tuesday afternoon when Joey Gronseth scored in overtime to give the Royals a 2-1 victory over Concordia College. Gronseth headed in a corner kick from Keagan Heckmann 6:35 into the first overtime period, giving the Royals their fourth victory of the season.

Prior to the overtime game winner, all the scoring action came early in the contest as Bethel struck first just 7:33 into the game. Connor Miller converted a header goal off a Kevin Hintz cross to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead. For Bethel it was the first goal since September 30th against Saint John's. The Cobbers were able to tie the game with a score in the 19th minute. From their the Royals defense and goalie Jakob Bartels gave the Cobbers little to work with. Bartels made four saves and Bethel outshot Concordia 9-8 for the game. The Royals generated five corner kicks for the game, including the eventual overtime game winner, to just one for Concordia.

The Royals will host the MIAC leader and unbeaten, No. 5 ranked University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon for the season finale. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
