NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Bethel University women's soccer team was defeated by the Carleton College Knights by a 3-0 score Saturday afternoon in Northfield, Minnesota. The Knights scored twice in the first half and added another in the second half while outshooting Bethel 23-8 and 12-4 in shots on goal.
Kaylee Peterson made nine saves for the Royals as they surrenderd a season high total in the Knights 23 shots. Carleton's 12 shots on goal was the first time a Bethel opponent has had a double digit shots on goal total as well.
Carleton's first score came just nine minutes into the game. The next tally came in the 41st minute as they extended their lead to 2-0 going into the half. The Knights final score came off a corner kick that featured a pair of headers to find the back of the net and seal the victory for Carleton.
The loss drops Bethel to 3-5-1 in the MIAC and puts a big dent in their push for another MIAC playoff berth as the Royals now sit in ninth place with two games remaining. Bethel's overall record is now 7-6-1 and the Royals will play host to Martin Luther College on Monday afternoon in the final non-conference contest of the season. Bethel will then head to Moorhead, Minnesota on Wednesday to take on the Concordia College Cobbers.
