Sipe & Royals Late Charge Leads to 3-1 Win at UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Bethel University women's soccer team traveled to Superior, Wisconsin Thursday night and found themselves down 1-0 late into the second period before Maggie Sipe unleashed on the Yellowjackets, scoring three goals in the last 12 minutes of the game. The Royals thoroughly dominated the play of the game but it was not showing on the scoreboard until Sipe's three goals late. Bethel outshot UWS 32-1 and 11-1 on shots on goal.

The Yellowjackets lone goal came off a free kick, the only shot they were able to attempt the entire game, in the 61st minute and it appeared as though maybe the Yellowjackets would be able to pull off the stunning upset. Sipe's first goal came in the 78th minute off an assist by Marnie Zilka. The next score came just three and a half minutes later when Karlie Perkins set up Sipe in the center of the box and she was able to flip a shot over the UWS goalie to give the Royals the lead. Three minutes later, in the 84th minute of play, Sipe's third goal came off a corner kick which she tipped in with assists going to Sydney Wight and Alicia Halikas. For the game Bethel created 14 corner kicks to just one for UW-Superior.

The Royals improved to 6-5-2 overall on the season and will return to MIAC play with a showdown against Macalester College Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
