ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University women's soccer team and the Hamline University Pipers played to a 2-2 draw on a brisk fall afternoon at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex Wednesday.
Kaley Roberts for the Pipers got the scoring going early. She scored a goal off a cross from Arendje Lauder in which all Roberts had to do was put her chest on the ball and it found the back of the net. The goal happened in the 2
nd minute and gave the Pipers the quick 1-0 lead.
Late in the 1
st half the Royals would get their equalizer as
Karlie Perkins scored from a nice pass from
Sophie Kendall. The goal came in the 35
th minute and the score was tied 1-1 headed into halftime.
The second half also featured a goal from each side. In the 66
th minute Ashlee Olson scored for the Pipers, Kaley Roberts scored the assist. In the 80
th minute the Royals would get the equalizer again with good ball movement and leading scorer
Maggie Sipe putting the ball in the back off the net off a header.
Sydney Wight and
Rachel Ness setup Sipe nicely who again tied the game.
No goals were scored in the two 10 minute overtime periods despite good opportunities from both sides. There were a total of 34 shots in the game, meaning both sides were busy creating chances on offense for their teams.
The draw puts the Royals at 5-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference play. Their next game is Oct. 12 when they travel to UW-Superior to play the Yellow Jackets. They then return home on Saturday where they will host Macalester College.
