ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - On a beautiful day at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex, the Bethel University men's soccer team got its first win of the season against rival Northwestern 4-0. The game was a nice bounce back from their 3-1 loss to Simpson College two days prior.
"I thought today was an excellent response after our game on Thursday," said Coach Iwaszkowiec. "We came out with intensity and passion and competed for 90 minutes."
Josh de la Rosa put the Royals on top in the 11
th minute of the first half, making a nice run and beating the UNW goalie before striking the ball into the back left side of the net.
"Josh was creating chances all day," Coach Iwaszkowiec said.
The de la Rosa goal would be the only scoring of the first half. Despite being down 1-0 at halftime the Eagles had outshot the Royals 11-7.
In the second the Royals turned up the defense and created more scoring chances on offense. Josh de la Rosa made a nice cross in the 53th minute, this time assisting on a goal that was headed in by
Brendan Reich. Bethel would score two more goals in the second half, both impressive shots by forward
Connor Miller. Northwestern failed to get a shot in the 2
nd half as the Royals cruised to the 4-0 victory.
Bethel's first win of the season improves their record to 1-1 on the young season. Next, they will play on Labor Day, at the University of Wisconsin-Superior before returning home Friday, September 9
th to start a three game home stand.
