Royals Complete Five-Game Home Stand Unbeaten with 4-2 Win Over SMU

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. –  The Royals left the Ona Orth Athletic Complex Saturday with an incredible 4-2 win against Saint Mary's. The Bethel women have won every game at home this 2016 season.  It only took a short amount of time for senior Mikayla Nordin to make the first goal of the game. It was within 10 minutes that the Cardinal's sophomore Becca Dup and senior Emma Schaefer quickly scored the Cardinals two goals of the game.

"I wasn't worried when we went down 2-1," said head coach Amanda Maxwell. "We have been scoring great goals this season and I knew we would fight back."

The Royals finished the first half of the game well and had a strong second half.  Freshman Adri Tjeerdsma tied the game up at 2-2 before halftime, while sophomore Maggie Sipe scored an impressive seventh goal of the season. Freshman Brooke Ogne brought the score up to 4-2 for the Royals as she excitedly shot her first goal of her college career.

"Saint Mary's got in on us over the top a couple of time and created their goals," said Maxwell.  Sophomore starter AddieKay Johnson was unable to attend the game today, but the Royal defenders held their ground and let through only six shots on goal from the Cardinals. "We adjusted and they didn't get those opportunities again. Our defenders had a great game."

The Royals played hard down to the final seconds, keeping the score at 4-2.

"It was a fun win," recalled Maxwell. "We continue to go out with lots of energy. It's been fun to see many players score goals and to continue to use the depth we have on our team." Maxwell is extremely proud of her team for the roles they each played. "It's been a true team effort to win games."

The Royals will travel to New Ulm, Minnesota on Monday, September 26th, to play against Martin Luther College at 4 p.m.  Only two days later, they will compete in a MIAC game against Carleton College in Northfield. Their next home game at Ona Orth Athletic Complex will be on Saturday, October 1st at 1 p.m. against Augsburg College.
