ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University men's soccer team suffered their second consecutive conference loss Saturday falling to Saint Mary's University 3-1 at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex. The Cardinals used a pair of goals late in the second half to take control of the tightly contested game.
"Obviously a disappointing result today," Coach Iwaszkowiec said. "After conceding an early goal we settled down and had some good opportunities."
James Larson of Saint Mary's scored the lone goal in the first half in the eighth minute giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. The Royals would get the equalizer in the second half when
Danny Jaderholm scored on a header to tie the game at 1-1.
"We scored a nice goal from a set piece." Iwaszkowiec said. "And had more opportunities to press for the win."
However Saint Mary's answered scoring two goals within less than a minute of each other to take the commanding 3-1 lead with just 13 minutes to play. Bethel outshot Saint Mary's 12-10 for the game and earned seven corner kicks to just two for the Cardinals.
"We need to be mentally stronger," Iwaszkowiec said. "And we need better execution in key moments."
The Royals fall to 5-3-1 with a 0-2-1 record in conference. They travel to Northfield on Tuesday to play Carleton College.
