ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team used a dominant second-half performance to come out with a 3-1 victory over St. Olaf College in the MIAC opener Tuesday afternoon.
The Royal's second home game at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex started off slow as St. Olaf had control of the ball for the majority of the first period. Despite the Oles successful job at keeping the ball at the Royal's end of the field, they were only able to score one goal the entire game, a little over 30 minutes into the first half.
Bethel picked up the pace as the women entered the second period, scoring all three of their goals in a time frame of twenty minutes. The first goal flew into the net as a header by freshman
Maria Retting, her second goal of the season.
The team continued to dominate the second half with the following two goals being scored only 90 seconds apart. Sophomore
Maggie Sipe is now up to four goals this season after an assist from senior
Mikayla Nordin. The third goal was shot in by sophomore Marnie Zilka who can add her first goal to her 2016 record.
With a 2-1-1 record after their fourth game, the Bethel Royals will shoot for their third home win at Ona Orth Athletic Complex on Saturday, September 17
th at 1 p.m. as they play the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
